LAST I KNEW MONEY WAS TIGHT!

As a semi-professional landscaper, I KNOW this ain’t cheap! Despite the fact that we are are in worst economic times in recent history–I guess everything is still “coming up roses” at the State Capitol or at least in this case, “coming up Salvias”. (the kind of flowers I saw SEVEN workers, that’s SEVEN workers’ planting today)

HARD AT WORK AT TAXPAYERS' EXPENSE
As Connecticut faces a projected 8.7 BILLION DOLLAR deficit by next year–can someone please tell me how this makes sense? I know flowers are beautiful and all but does the State really need to be changing the flower beds at the Capitol every few months? Today, I observed seven men with a private landscaping company working on the front lawn! Seven men, mind you, for several hours!! The labor in and of itself isn’t cheap not to mention the hundreds of flowers they brought with them. (most are Salvias!)

I am told that Legislative management runs the operating costs for the Capitol which includes the flower beds and landscaping. However, I have not been able to get a hard number on how much money is spent on flowers but have been told that the office has not trimmed its budget at all!
